Colab PhD/MPhil Scholarships 2018/19

Colab is the collaboratory for Design and Creative Technologies at the Auckland University of Technology (AUT), New Zealand. Our aim is to encourage researchers, students and stakeholders to imagine, construct, articulate and navigate rapidly changing social, economic, technological and career environments.
To support innovative interdisciplinary research that reflects Colab’s future-focused aspirations in such areas as gaming, entrepreneurship, smart materials, wearable tech, making and digital civics Colab will offer fees scholarships for the doctoral programme and domestic equivalent fees Scholarships for the MPhil programme.

Closing date: 14/12/2018 and 14/12/2019

Full fees-PHD
Domestic equivalent fees- MPhil.

Selection criteria:

  • The scholarships are open to domestic and international applicants.
  • Applicants must meet the entry requirements for the Ph.D. or MPhil programme at AUT.
  • The scholarships are available on merit to New Zealand citizens, permanent residents, and international students.
  • Preference will be given to proposals in areas of interdisciplinary engagement pertinent to Colab’s aims and research focus.
Application Procedure
The applicant must submit the application by the closing date and upload:
• Copies of transcripts for any study completed at an institution other than AUT
• A copy of the Research Proposal (PGR1 or PGR2) that will be submitted as a component of the application for admission.

About the OKP The Orange Knowledge Programme promotes capacity building within organisations in 52 countries by providing training and education through fellowships for professionals. GENOMIC EPIDEMIOLOGY OF INFECTIOUS DISEASES – FULL DESCRIPTION This course will provide an intensive introduction to the methods used for analysis of whole genome sequencing (WGS) data and its application to infectious disease epidemiology. Students will learn bioinformatics approaches to WGS analysis through a combination of lectures and hands-on workshops. Topics will include how to perform  de novo  versus reference-based assembly, how to identify (‘call’) single nucleotide polymorphisms, and creating/interpreting phylogenetic trees. Emphasis will be placed on applications of WGS to outbreak investigation, study design issues and minimizing bias in genomic epidemiologic studies, and the implications that these data can have for public health.
