Australia Awards-ASEAN Scholarships 2019 (Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand)

The Australia Awards-ASEAN Scholarships are now open for citizens of Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand (ASEAN countries where these Awards are currently not available before).
The Australia Awards are prestigious international scholarships and fellowships funded by the Australian Government that aim to contribute to the long term development needs of Australia’s partner countries, in line with global, bilateral and regional agreements. The Australia Awards are a whole-of-government initiative bringing together scholarships and fellowships administered by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Department of Education and the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), offering the next generation of global leaders an opportunity to undertake study, research and professional development in Australia and for highachieving Australians to do the same overseas. In 2015, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade invested $371.2 million in Australia Awards, enabling over 4,100 recipients from more than 87developing countries to undertake study, research and professional development.
An initiative of the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit, the Australia Awards-ASEAN Scholarship is a one-off opportunity to study in Australia in fields contributing to ASEAN’s peace, prosperity and social development.
Eligibility
To be eligible to receive an Australia Awards Scholarship, applicants must:
·         be a minimum of 18 years of age at the time of commencing the scholarship ii. be a citizen of a participating country (as listed on the Australia Awards website) and be residing in and applying for the scholarship from their country of citizenship.
      not be married, engaged to, or a de facto of a person who holds, or is eligible to hold, Australian or New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency, at any time during the application, selection or mobilisation phases (note: residents of Cook Islands, Niue and Tokelau with New Zealand citizenship are eligible but must apply for a Student visa (subclass 500) and not be current serving military personnel

·         not be a citizen of Australia, hold permanent residency in Australia or be applying for a visa to live in Australia permanently

·         not be applying for another long-term Australia Award unless they have resided outside of Australia for twice the length of the total time that they were in Australia (for example, a previous awardee who has been on an Australia Awards Scholarship in Australia for four years will not be eligible to apply for another Australia Awards Scholarship until they have resided outside Australia for eight years) 
·         have satisfied any specific criteria established by the Program Area or the government of the applicant’s country of citizenship (e.g. having worked a certain number of years in an appropriate sector) 
·         be able to satisfy the admission requirements of the institution at which the award is to be undertaken (this may mean that Program Areas will need to withdraw an award offer if the recipient cannot satisfy the institution’s admission requirements. This may not be known until Program Areas request a placement at selected institutions).
·         be able to satisfy all requirements of the Department of Immigration and Border Protection to hold a Student This may mean that the Program Area will need to withdraw an award offer if the recipient cannot satisfy the visa requirements ix. Applicants must inform the Program Area of any connection or relationship to staff employed at Program Areas or with managing contractors so that the application may be properly and transparently managed.
Specifically, candidates must:
§  Citizenship of Brunei, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand;
§  Have an English language proficiency of at least 6.5 in IELTS with no band less than 6.0 (or 575 in paper-based TOEFL or 90 in internet based TOEFL or 61 in PTE Academic). The IELTS, TOEFL or PTE Academic result must be current (obtained in the last 2 years from the application closing date, or a test result obtained between April 30, 2016 until April 30,2018 will be considered current). No other English language test (including TOEFL prediction test) results will be accepted;
§  Provide contact details of test centre for verification of IELTS/TOEFL test results.
§  Already hold an undergraduate degree, if applying for a Masters.
§  Answer all relevant questions on the application form.
§  Be willing and available to undertake full-time (Monday-Friday 08:00-16:00) Pre-Departure Training in Indonesia prior to studying in Australia, if offered a scholarship.
